The material used to make these shorts is very similar to the material commonly used in the crotch and inside-arm area of sport jackets and suits. It’s a thick, durable, stretchy fabric and feels like it would do a good job with abrasion resistance. These shorts used as underwear would greatly help with abrasion resistance when wearing denim—certainly better than cotton boxers! The inside is lined with a soft nylon mesh fabric and the crotch area has a panel of vented material built in to help keep you comfortable.
