Our Two Cents

The US distributor for Hein Gericke ceased operations late last year and they are unloading their remaining inventory. Hein Gericke is a “sister” brand of FirstGear and we’ve carried their products over the years and find them to be high quality (just like FirstGear). Although we never carried the the Tricky jacket (dumb name…great jacket), we bought this closeout group since it is such a good value for a high quality leather sport jacket. This style is an all leather black sport jacket complete with high quality armor and several convenience features. The overall styling of the jacket would be great for most any style riding. Black leather goes with anything! This jacket comes with CE approved armor inserts in the shoulders and elbows along with a back pad as well. The armor is a combination of rigid plastic and comfort foam and they feel like they’d do a very good job (take the “View Larger Pictures” link above to see a close-up). The back pad is very nice also. It’s more than just a foam insert since it also has a rigid material incorporated. It feels substantial, but it’s thin and will be comfortable to wear in the jacket. For climate control, the jacket has zippered venting on the front and rear and also has some perforated panels in the lower torso area. The lining is nylon mesh. I’d recommend this jacket for mild to warm weather riding, or even hot weather if you ride a sport bike and will get the full wind blast while riding. I like the slightly slanted main zipper styling. Another good feature worth mentioning are the large stretch-leather panels behind the shoulders. These will be a help when reaching forward to the handle bars on a sport-style bike.
