Our Two Cents
This style has been discontinued, so we were able to buy all the remaining inventory at a great price. Its a classic, simple full mesh jacket design, so what should it matter if its discontinued or not, right? Pick one up for the hot weather! My comments from ‘06: The San Jose jacket is primarily designed for hot weather riding. The entire shell of the jacket is a “free air” mesh design which allows wind to blow right through. I find that a mesh jacket like this is actually more comfortable than wearing only a tee shirt since the jacket material will keep the sun off your skin and reduce wind burn. And while a mesh/textile jacket like this is not as good as leather in terms of crash protection, it’s still a WHOLE lot better than not wearing any protective gear. To enhance the crash worthiness of this jacket, it comes complete with removable armor in the shoulders, elbows and back. If you watch other bikers in hot weather, you’ll likely see many jackets like this being used as they are very popular. To add to the useful temperature range of this jacket it comes with a removable vest-type thermal liner too. These liners can be useful on day rides where it is cooler in the morning, but warms up in the afternoon. Just remove the vest and tuck it away somewhere, it packs very tightly. This jacket has a nice cut for ladies. It includes zippers in the rear kidney area to adjust for hip size too. The styling is appropriate for all type of riding, cruiser and sport.

I love my San Jose Jacket (left in picture). I enjoyed it around the East Coast last season, and this year took it, along with my cold weather coat, on a 19 day cross-country trip where the temps out west regularly reached between 90 and 105F. It stood up well being packed away morning and night and did beautifully during the day when I needed air flow. (Read more...)
