Overview

The new Defiant helmet from Arai is billed as “the ultimate street helmet”, giving urban, naked-bike riders the core protection they need and the aggressive styling they want. Built for the upright riding position with enhancements that type of rider will truly appreciate. The helmet fits much like the RX-Q, but don’t think this helmet is an RX-Q with a facelift; it has benefits and features all its own.

Advanced Ventilation

Ventilation and aerodynamics are designed to work together to flow more air while reducing drag. The new IC-4 upper front intake vents have a slide-gate closure that seals more completely when closed, allowing for a cleaner airflow while closed. The new ACR-4 flow thru exhaust vent also allows airflow to pass over and through the vent, accelerating exhaust flow from the helmet interior when open and reducing drag when closed.

Small, more aerodynamic, hand-formed natural shell shape and size

Aids stability and stillness – not only in straight-line wind-tunnel stability, but it also minimizes the negative aerodynamic effect when turning your head to check traffic or in a cross wind. And it looks better on your head than other bigger, rounder balloon-style designs on the market.

Extremely Wide Peripheral View

For better visibility and awareness of the world around you, The Defiant uses the same wider-eyeport SAI Max-Vision Brow Vent faceshield as the Corsair-V, 5mm wider on each side. The helmet comes standard with a clear Pinlock SAI Max-Vision faceshield and anti-fog lens insert.

Very, very quiet and incredible comfort

The design of the new FCS (Facial Contour System) cheek pad design has a contoured shape combined with multiple layers of varying foam densities, supported by a patented spring. These all combine to cradle the face like nothing that has ever come before, even in an Arai. The FCS cheek pads arc gently, simultaneously holding the cheek and jawbone firmly for a secure fit, while gently contacting the soft areas of the cheek for an incredible all day comfort without pressure. The newly sculpted lower portion of the cheek pad better cradles the jaw, blocking more noise entering the helmet from underneath – the major source of helmet noise – by creating a better noise seal. This, combined with new sound-deadening foam in the ear pocket, gives you an extremely quiet helmet. Plus, the cheekpad also has Arai’s innovative Emergency Cheek Pad Removal System.

Micro-Fittable Removable Interior

The head liner, cheek pads, chin strap covers and neck roll pad are fully removable and washable. The cheek pads have a 5mm peel-away layer to assist with facial fit and comfort. The helmet comes standard with 5mm peel-away temple pads to add another level of customization, giving the helmet interior a little extra width when needed.

A uniquely-designed lower Hyper-Ridge

Circles the shell bottom to improve strength and aerodynamics. Its design lowers the center-of-gravity for an exceptionally light feeling on your head, and provides a larger bottom opening for easier on-off without enlarging the helmet.

All New, IR Front Spoiler Edge

The IR front spoiler edge trim creates a stabilizing down force, reducing buffeting, lifting and wind noise that can be generated by the turbulence trapped between your shoulders and the bottom of the helmet.

Removable Neck Roll

The new IR neck roll pad has an improved shape to flow more air to the bottom of the helmet at lower speeds and improve rider comfort. The new shape also makes it easier to put on and take off the Defiant, with less contact and pressure on the ears. New water repellent material along the bottom edge improves comfort for a dryer ride in wet conditions.

Brow Vent Channeling

The faceshield Brow Vents, like those of the Corsair-V redirect incoming air to the temples instead of the forehead, and around the ear area (missed by many helmet ventilation systems). The stale air is then extracted out of the side exhaust cowls. The airflow over the temple artery reportedly also helps cool the blood flow to the brain area. This simple re-purposing of two existing vent features greatly improves helmet performance and rider comfort.

Shape

The Defiant has an evolved version of Arai’s very popular Intermediate-Oval interior shape. The Defiant shape is similar to the current RX-Q, Corsair-V and Vector models, and the former RX-7 Corsair and Quantum-2, but the Defiant’s shape represents a further refinement of interior shape configuration based on market feedback and Arai’s continual comparison, measurement and research of human head shapes.
