Oxtar Boots Sizing Chart

Oxtar boots are manufactured in European sizes. The manufacturer supplies a chart for conversion to US sizes and Oxtar has been using one conversion chart for several years and labels the boot boxes with both the European size and the estimated US size. In January of 2007, Oxtar decided to change the chart to better represent the conversion so we now have a “new” size conversion chart. Keep in mind that the physical size of the boots has not changed…. only the US conversion recommendation has changed. So if you have a pair of Oxtar boots, please check inside the boot or on the sole for the European size and go from there.

Which chart more accurately reflects the US size? Well, in the majority of sizes, they are only altering the recommendation by 1/2 size, so it’s really not a drastic change, but in general they are now recommending slightly larger Oxtar boots for any given US size. We find the fit of Oxtar boots to be “roomy” through the instep and ball area of the foot, so going with the new size estimate would make that observation even more pronounced. My personal recommendation would be to tend toward the old estimates for those with wide/thick feet and to recommend the new size for those with “normal” width feet (to get sufficient length). If you have narrow feet, I’d recommend another brand such as Sidi that has a more narrow fit.

During 2007, any particular boot box you buy may indicate either the old or the new estimated US size since the inventory of boots floating around in the US is now “mixed” with regard to the labeling. We apologize for the complicated nature of our sizing recommendations, but the change of conversion charts by the manufacturer doesn’t make a short story seem adequate :) —Paul
