Alpinestars S-MX Air-Flow Leather/Mesh Jacket
Sizing Information:
This product is sold in European sizes. You can choose a European size based upon your US chest size using Alpinestars’ sizing chart. And for those who may have a bit of a belly, we encourage you to consider our estimated max belly sizes listed below. Choose a jacket size that will accommodate both your chest and your belly. Keep in mind that this is a highly fitted jacket, so choosing a size based upon these recommendations will result in a snug fit which should be comfortable while sitting, but may be restrictive while standing and walking. Those who don’t like a snug fit should either consider another style or buy one size larger than recommended.

I’ll have to say that the S-MX Air-Flo jacket is the most advanced and protective jacket I’ve looked at to date which is also designed for comfort in warmer weather. It offers top of the line race protection. The jacket includes heavy duty armor throughout. The shoulder armor is built into the jacket and is very substantial (and really neat looking too!). The armor pieces on the shoulders also have integral ram-air ventilation. The elbow armor is a CE approved “turtle shell” style and is secured to the jacket with Velcro right to the leather shell, so it’s held in place extremely well. This jacket also includes some pretty substantial foam armor pieces in the chest area (something above and beyond even what most suits offer). For back protection, the jacket comes with a foam pad, but this can be upgraded to a CE approved RC back protector (take the link below). The RC may prove to be too bulky with the speed hump and chest pads, but it would be worth a try. The majority of the front of the jacket is constructed with heavy mesh panels allowing air to pass through freely. For cooler days a removable full sleeve wind/water resistant liner is included. The jacket also comes with two front pockets and one interior zippered pocket making it more practical than most suit jackets. Like some race suits, this jacket has the race hump in back. They call it aerodynamic, but the main purpose of this hump is to provide a bridge between your shoulders and the back of your helmet in case of a fall. The hump would help keep your head from being wrenched forward by your helmet if you landed on your back and shoulders. The hump might also have some aerodynamic benefit too, but I bet you’d have to be going really fast to tell any difference (I’d never go that fast so I wouldn’t be the best one to comment :) Aside from all that, though, it looks neat when you are on the bike. Take the View Larger Pictures link above to see these features close up. The jacket comes with a full circumference zipper for attachment to Alpinestars pants. When zipped to the Track Leather Pants, youâd essentially have a great 2pc track suit. Also note, the Track pants come in talls now, so those who have trouble fitting in one or two piece suits have an option for additional height by pairing a jacket like this with tall inseam pants.
