Joe Rocket Speedmaster 5.0 One Piece Suit
Sizing Information:
Below is sizing information as supplied by Joe Rocket. We feel the chart accurately reflects the suit’s fit. Sizing on these suits is roomy as compared to most other styles. Our experience has been that most suits will fit more snugly than a corresponding size jacket and many people would have to go up in size, but these suits are fitting pretty true to the stated chest size. They are also pretty roomy through the arms and shoulders, so those with some muscle should find them comfortable. So, you can pick a suit size based upon your chest measurement or your coat size if you know it. And check to make sure that your belly size is not too large for the suit—otherwise you’ll have to go with a larger suit to accommodate the belly. Max belly for each size suit is approximately 5” less than the suit size (example: a 48 suit will handle up to a 43” belly).

INSEAM MEASUREMENTS FOR SUITS RUN FROM CROTCH TO ABOVE ANKLE BONE.
The Speedmaster 5.0 is a heavy duty, well constructed, perforated race suit. The overall quality and styling of this suit looks very good. Joe Rocket claims leather used is thicker than any other suit we carry (1.4 to 1.7mm). We’ve not measured, but it does seem at least as thick as anything we carry. The armor in this suit is quite substantial and should provide excellent protection in the event of a fall. The shoulders and elbows are protected with removable CE approved armor, and the elbow armor extends down the arm toward the wrist for extra coverage. The shoulder armor piece is a standard molded rubber type and is backed up by titanium plates (which you can see on the exterior of the shoulder area). The back protector is much better than most foam padding I’ve seen and should offer some great impact protection. The foam material used is a bit more dense than most and it is even shaped like a human back (slight indention down the spine). The knees are also protected with removable CE approved armor with ceramic knee sliders placed on the outside of the knee. The adjustable ceramic knee sliders are attached with Velcro so they can be replaced, or removed when you’re not using them. The suit also has an “aerodynamic speed hump”. They call it aerodynamic, but the main purpose of this hump is to provide a bridge between your shoulders and the back of your helmet in case of a fall. The hump would help keep your head from being wrenched forward by your helmet if you landed on your back and shoulders. The hump might also have some aerodynamic benefit too, but I bet you’d have to be going really fast to tell any difference (I’d never go that fast so I wouldn’t be the best one to comment). Aside from all that, though, it looks neat when you are on the bike. Like many other one piece suits, the Speedmaster is designed to be comfortable in the tucked riding position, so even with a perfect fit don’t expect to feel natural standing around in it. Stretchable fabric under the arms and at the crotch allow for a good range of motion while on and off the bike. Speaking of comfort, this suit has more venting than most. A good deal of the front torso is perforated and there are two “ram air” vents on the shoulders to shoot some air down your back. Joe Rocket offers an upgrade for the foam back protector that is supplied as standard with this suit. The first gear undersuit leaves no struggle to remove the suit. Gotta love that As far as the suit goes... At first it was tight and a little stiff, mainly in the jewels department. (Read more...)
