My thinking is that most people will use this jacket without the liners or just with the windproof liner. The part that adds the bulk is the insulated liner and will be used least often. If you agree that you’d typically wear the jacket without the thermal liner, I’d suggest you buy one size smaller than normal. If you are often between sizes, then choose the smaller of the two.
Our Two Cents
This jacket has been phased out for the ‘08 season, but it’s been a “best seller” for us for a couple years so we bought all the remaining inventory from our US distributor. Take advantage of the savings while this inventory remains. My comments from ‘06: The GX Air is much like other “free air” jacket designs, but this version improves upon the armor and windproof liner as compared to others. Most manufacturers include a windproof liner with mesh jackets these days which helps extend the jacket’s usable temperature range. This is helpful on cool mornings or with riders who pass through temperature extremes on their daily rides (like those in the mountains). This jacket’s liner though is “two stage” since it comes with a removable thermal liner which helps extend the comfort range even more. Another well thought out aspect of the 2 stage liner: the waterproof liner is constructed so that you can wear it separately from the coat. This a very convenient feature for those who travel on their bike and wish to pack lightly. The liner can be worn as a wind breaker, or even as a coat with the thermal liner inside. Neat! The armor supplied is a hard-plastic-over-foam GP type armor that is CE rated. No upgrades necessary here! And to improve the abrasion resistance of this jacket, the shoulders, elbows and spine area have leather overlays. These overlays have some raised padding to give this jacket a sport look. Take the “View Larger Pictures” link above to see some great close-up photos of all these features.

We love the new gear -- and the delivery time was great. My wife and I wore the jackets and the helmet for a 200KM ride today as soon as they arrived. The afternoon was warm and the jackets kept us cool enough to be comfortable. (Read more...)

Loved this jacket so much, I bought a second one for my husband. After our first spring ride through the Cascades and then on to the high desert floor, even he had to admit the jacket is ideal for a wide range of temperatures. The layered design makes it easy to ride in the brrr cold of the mountains and then peel off the layers for the hot stuff on the valley floor. (Read more...)
