Sizing Information

These pants are sold in men’s waist sizes. Below is a table we developed to help you choose a size that is best for you (please note the pants run small in the smaller sizes). There are some elastic panels in the waist and also down the sides of the hips which makes the fit a bit easier. The pants have long side zippers which allows them to be easily worn over other clothing. The waist adjustments will be enough to allow the pants to be worn over light clothing without going up a size, but certainly, if you are between sizes, you should go with the larger of the two sizes.

Our Two Cents

I think the official name of these pants should have been Four Season Overpants. The key feature with this pant is the long side zippers in the pants. These pants will be ideal for commuters and street riders who want to wear protective gear over their street clothes. And people wear these not only for protection, but also to keep their street clothes clean for work. The design of these pants is meant to cover a wide range of temperatures. A good deal of the pant’s shell is a loose weave mesh material which will allow for comfort in hot weather. But the pants also come with a removable thermal liner as well. The thermal liner also has the long side zippers so the overpant functionality remains even when using the thermal liner. Neat! The manufacturer says the thermal liner can be worn separate, which is true, but it’s a little weird looking by itself. Maybe it could be worn under other garments for cold, outdoor use? Anyway, do with it what you will. For impact protection, you get removable “GP” type knee armor in the knees and foam padding pieces in the hip area. I really like the height adjustment feature of the knee armor. It helps fine tune the fit of the pants to your leg length. I’ve got a good shot of the pocket, which has three Velcro strips both top and bottom of the armor. They are spaced such that you can trap the armor between three different pairs of Velcro strips to adjust the height. Simple and effective. The overall style is ideal for street and sport riders, but unlike race pants, the legs are cut large enough to wear over boots rather than tucked in. There are some adjustment straps at the waist (see comments above under sizing) and adjusters to help place the armor firmly on your knee. You also get a generous amount of reflective piping for night time visibility. Please take the “View Larger Pictures” link above to see some good close-up pictures of the pant’s features.

Both the Joe Rocket Mesh Jacket and the Fieldsheer pants are awesome for warm or hot weather riding! And with the cold/wet weather liners, they are great to take on the road and add when you need 'em, remove them when you don't!
