Sizing Information
These pants are sold in Alpha sizes and allow for some waist adjustment. We find the pants to run small as compared to Alpinestar’s sizing chart (the discrepancy gets progressively worse in the larger size pants). We developed the following chart to help you get the best fit based on your US pants size. This fit estimate is assuming you’ll be wearing the pants over underwear only (not over other street clothes). These pants really aren’t made to be worn over other street clothes, but if that is your intention, you’d want to order one size bigger.

Our Two Cents
The ST-5 Drystar is a great multi-purpose riding pant for use in mild to cold weather and/or wet weather. They will be ideal for touring riders or commuters. The pants have the waterproof Drystar lining (between the pant’s outer fabric shell and the interior nylon lining) that should effectively keep you dry in wet weather. The pants also have a substantial removable insulated liner. The combination of layers should provide a great deal of warmth on cold rides. The pants have two front hand pockets along with two good sized cargo pockets for extra storage (very convenient for touring). For protection the pants include removable CE approved knee armor that extends down the shin providing good coverage and there is also some comfortable foam hip padding. You also get reflective piping running across the back of the pants for increased nighttime visibility. Take the “View Larger Pictures Link” above to see some good closeups of the pants and their features.

I only owned the ST-5 pants during a cooler part of the year, and with the lining in they were incredibly warm. With the lining out I wouldn't recommend them for summer weather, 85 degrees F or more. The picture is the aftermath after an encounter... (Read more...)

I felt they are a well made pant with more of a racing styling. They would best be worn with boots in temps 60s to well below I would imagine. I decide to return for the tour master flex pants which I will review once I get a chance to test them. (Read more...)
