Sizing Information

You can consult sizing information from FirstGear to choose a size based upon your height and weight and also considering the sizes you normally wear in men’s clothing. Tall sizes: FirstGear offers this jacket in talls, which provides a rarely found option for tall people. The body and sleeves of the jackets are 1 1/2 to 2 inches taller than the “standard” cut jackets. If you normally have to buy “talls” then these should work for you.

Our Two Cents

FirstGear’s distributor has put TPG jackets and pants on sale. They are saying, “for a limited time only”, so we can’t say how long these will be available at a reduced price. Shop now while size and color selections are available. My product comments: Wow, talk about features! This jacket does everything you could want it to do, and possibly more. Let’s start with climate control… this jacket will work in temperatures ranging from warm to very cold. A 3/4 length style like this can provide great coverage from the elements, especially in cold and/or wet weather. The jacket is about as waterproof as any I’ve seen. All of the pocket zippers are water resistant and are overlapped by a waterproof flap. The main closure zipper is also covered by an overlapping waterproof flap. One more handy feature for use in the rain is a waterproof hood that is rolled up and stored under the collar of the jacket. This jacket also includes a very nice windproof/waterproof removable liner. Although the liner is not insulated, the combination of the layers feels warm (at least under the studio lights :). The liner will add yet another layer of protection against the wet and cold. And when you get where you are going, the liner makes a very sharp looking windbreaker. This dual-purpose capability is handy for those with limited packing space. Now for warm weather features… the jacket has some creative venting. The front of the jacket has two 8” zippered vents that are attached to a pull cord on the inside of the jacket that will keep them in an open position for optimal airflow (view larger pictures to see this feature). There are also two large exhaust vents in the rear of the jacket. Other fit/convenience features… the main zipper is “two way” meaning you zip it up normally from the bottom, but you can also raise a second zipper slider from the bottom which will help with comfort when sitting on a bike in the riding position. This jacket has a great deal of storage for all of your touring needs. There are seven external (and three internal) pockets including an easily accessible cell phone pocket, and there is also a large storage pouch on the back of the jacket. There is a connection zipper in the jacket for attachment to FirstGear pants. The wrist closures and waist are adjustable and you can also tighten a pull cord at the bottom of the jacket to block out unwanted wind on cooler rides. For crash protection, the jacket comes with removable CE approved armor in the shoulders and elbows and an…errr… somewhat insignificant backpad that you may want to upgrade to the affordable Temperfoam backpad (see link below). There is a large amount of reflective material on this jacket that will make the jacket hard to miss at nighttime. I encourage you to take the “View Larger Pictures” link above to take a look at all the handy features this jacket has to offer.

Love this jacket. Works great in cold weather with the liner, and in warm weather with the liner removed and vents open. After getting caught in a rainstorm, it also kept me dry. (Read more...)

I purchased a FirstGear TPG jacket and pants from NewEnough in May of 2009 when they first went on sale. I have only been able to use the suit in recent months now that the weather is cold. This is the best winter gear that I have ever owned and it is extremely comfortable. (Read more...)
