Sizing Information
Please see our TCX Sizing Information page for help in choosing a size. This style will accommodate small or average calf sizes, but the boot does not have adjustments for larger calves. For that, we recommend Sidi.
Our Two Cents
This style offers just about the best ankle and heel protection we have seen in a race boot, along with all the other usual armor features you’d expect. Speaking of ankle protection systems, I really liked the Torsion Control System. I’ve included the manufacturer’s notes below to give you some physical details. But to sum it up, the system is designed to protect your ankle from being hyper-extended in any direction while still allowing you to walk around with a reasonable amount of comfort. To accomplish this there is a hard plastic ankle brace in the back of the boot that wraps around both sides. The brace is connected at the bottom of the boot with about an inch of room to flex in any direction (please see our examples by taking the “View Larger Picture” link above). This boot also offers an internal lacing system that allows you to fine-tune the fit across the instep area. Below we have included the manufacturer’s comments about many of the new features this boot has to offer. Overall the styling is sharp and the quality high. A bit of explanation of the ventilated sole: There is a small hole between the boot’s upper and the sole on the outside of the foot just below the back of the toe slider. If you force air through this hole, it exhausts out the back behind the heel. What happens in between? Not a clue.
From the Manufacturer:
Torsion Control System® The Torsion Control System® has undergone modifications and been perfected, increasing its functionality and safety performance. The system has been noticeably updated and is now made up of 4 combined elements. The main structure has a double heel and a frame that allow lateral and longitudinal movement of the ankle, preventing torsion beyond natural limits and therefore protecting the joints from possible injuries. This main structure is connected to an X-shaped central body sewn to the upper, that connects the upper part to the lower part of the boot and guarantees excellent hold for the leg. The steel slider has been designed to protect the heel and favor the natural sliding motion in the case of a fall.
New Fastening System-Fasten Fit Control It is an internal fastening system connected to the boot lining to ensure greater hold and making it non-deformable. It gives an unbeatable fit for the rider’s individual anatomy, which is extremely practical and quick, thanks to the ‘memory’ that the system retains of the fastening.
Metatarsal Control System® The system is based on a rigid shell with a rotation mechanism that incorporates programmed stops at the top and bottom, designed to prevent excessive flexion of the metatarsal either up or down. The special position of the point of flexion and the new ovoid pivot guarantee freedom of movement for the foot and excellent sensitivity when riding. The slider in AISI304 new steel is highly resistant to abrasion and has a perforated structure that allows the passage of air and therefore better breathability, working in synergy with the new ‘ventilated’ sole.
New Ventilated Sole The new Competizione RS sole has been designed to exploit the movement of air whilst riding, increasing transpiration, thanks to its combination with a new, perforated foot bed. The inner surface of the sole has frontal air vents that encourage the air to work in synergy with the perforated antibacterial foot bed, thus increasing ventilation for the foot. The sole is made of a special, three-color mixture that is resistant to oil and hydrocarbons.
