Our Two Cents
The Freestyle jacket by Teknic is a really unique jacket. This jacket would work out well for street/sport use, and the external armor gives it a nice aggressive look. I would recommend this jacket for cold to warm temperatures and/wet weather. The jacket offers some pretty extensive venting including two large arm vents, two shoulder vents and a large rear exhaust vent. There is also some venting offered by the external shoulder armor. The jacket offers waterproof construction by way of a waterproof/breathable inside liner. Use of a liner like this keeps water out effectively but the shell material of the jacket gets wet. Although the zippered venting is extensive the inside liner won’t allow free flow of air all the way through the jacket to your skin so the overall effectiveness of the vents is moderate, so we think you’d be comfortable in cold to mild weather conditions, but not hot weather. For cooler weather, an insulated vest liner is included making this jacket suitable for use in cold temperatures. The jacket offers some good protection. The shoulders and elbows of the jacket have built-in heavy-duty “GP” type armor. The armor is comprised of a hard outer shell with softer padding underneath. This type armor is commonly used in racing suits. The lower back and kidneys are protected by an external back protector. This back protector also adds to the aggressive look of this jacket. The waist, sleeves and cuffs of the jacket are all adjustable allowing you to fine-tune the fit. Take the “View Larger Pictures” link above to see some good closeups of this jacket and its features.
