Our Two Cents
This suit is specially made for the Supermotard racer. For those of you that don’t know much about Supermoto, here is a definition I picked up on Google: Supermoto (also called Supermotard due to its strong foothold in France) is a cross over of motocross and road racing. A big (typically 400cc to 700 cc) motocross or enduro bike with spoked road race wheels on slick tires, is ridden on a circuit approximately 70% tarmac and 30% dirt. Commonly held on road racing tracks with the off road section in the in field. Riders wear road race leathers (as opposed to off road clothes). So anyway... what makes this suit different/better for this style of racing? The big emphasis is on safety, minimum bulk and comfort in hot weather. The overall shape is very much like a traditional 1pc road racing suit (after all, the tucked riding position is common to all motorcycle racing), but many of the panels on the front and back torso, legs and arms are lightweight mesh material or perforated leather which reduces the overall weight of the suit and allows free air flow over the body. The armor in the shoulders and elbows is pretty much the same as for road racing…in this particular design, the shoulder armor is a molded plastic over foam arrangement that is integrated into the suit’s shoulders. They also have neat air scoops built in. The elbows are plastic-over-foam pieces Velcroed securely to the leather shell of the arm—very substantial and effective. The suit has a great back protector that is zipped into the shell of the suit, but rather than being covered in leather like a road racing suit, it’s exposed in the back… again to reduce weight and increase hot weather comfort. The suit has Velcro at the knees if you want to add sliders. The suit comes with some logo-type molded rubber pieces attached to the Velcro from the factory, but those are pretty much cosmetic. The suit does not come with knee armor… the idea being the rider will have knee armor of his own worn directly on the leg. The knees are extra roomy to allow for this.
