Our Two Cents
The Quantum DNS Textile jacket looks and feels more like a casual bomber jacket that you could wear out to the mall than a motorcycle jacket – but I think that’s the idea. This jacket has all the protective features of a motorcycle jacket cleverly tucked away. The biggest stand out of the Quantum DNS jacket is its cotton twill construction. This material is super soft and flexible, which means the jacket is very comfortable to wear – plus it’s got some cool technology behind it. Here’s what Alpinestars has to say about it:
DNS® is a nano technology water barrier treatment applied on both the internal and external surfaces of the garment that adds strength and advanced moisture wicking in addition to water and wind resistance.
So basically – even though it’s soft comfortable cotton, it is treated to be waterproof and stronger as well. For protection there is CE approved armor in the shoulders and elbows, as well as pockets for the RC Back Protector and Bionic Chest Pads (sold separately – see below). There is also a fully sleeved insulated liner for cold weather use, and in warmer weather the cotton material should breathe fairly well (although there are no vents). There is also a hood which will keep your head warm when you aren’t riding, and it easily detaches with a simple zipper connection. Four outer pockets give you plenty of storage options, and there is a document pocket and several more cargo pockets on the inside of the jacket as well. The waist of the jacket is elastic, which adds to the overall comfort factor. If you are looking for a jacket that doesn’t scream “I RODE A MOTORCYCLE HERE” – this one might be a good option for you!
